Use of JavaScript

The River Cities website employs the JavaScript programming language to implement visual effects and enhance the browsing experience for our users. Its use is restricted to visial effects and does not affect the accessibility of information on the website itself for users who choose not to enable or whose browser does not support JavaScript. JavaScript is used on this website for the following applications:

Roll-Overs

Many elements, in particular the menu items, will change appearance when the mouse is placed over them and will assume their original appearance when the mouse is moved off the element. This is intended as a navigational aid to the user, and the links will still work if JavaScript is unavailable.

Layout Clean-Up

Some pages contain large amounts of information. To declutter their appearance and not overwhelm the reader, JavaScript is used to reduce the visible content to the corresponding headlines and descriptive titles. These headlines will reveal their information when clicked on. All the information is still available to users without JavaScript support, but is presented all at once in one long page.

Transparent Images

For certain backgrounds, this website uses semitransparent images, which are displayed correctly by default in the Safari, Firefox and Opera browsers. To display these images correctly in Microsoft Internet Explorer, a short JavaScript is employed. Without JavaScript support, these background images are displayed as a light solid color background in Internet Explorer and don't appear to be transparent.
